President of Special Conference

Dear Delegates of THIMUN 2008!

My name is Max Jürgens and I am honored to serve as this year's President to the Special Conference on Climate Change. Currently I am a junior at the John F. Kennedy School in Germany's capital, Berlin. I am sincerely looking forward to meeting all delegates of the SCCC and I hope we can make THIMUN 2008 a truly remarkable experience for every individual participant.

THIMUN 2008 will be my 8 th conference and 3 rd THIMUN. Last year I had the privilege of leading the 4 th General Assembly Committee as Deputy Chair. I am especially glad about this year's position, as my MUN career originated in the Special Conference, not two years ago.

MUN is our tool for change. Young people need to realize their responsibility in constructing a sustainable future. Climate Change is one of the most important aspects of that. My home town, Berlin, might become a dessert in a few decades, and some islands will simply be non-existent. Through vibrant and dynamic debates, interesting lobbying sessions, and respectful interaction we should fulfill our part in the global struggle. Ultimately, it is our future we need to save.

On a more personal basis: I have lived in Berlin since my birth, and still enjoy its wonderful, sophisticated, and cosmopolitan atmosphere. When I am not playing soccer or handball, you'll probably find me listening to Latin music or touring the lake with my rowing team. Aside from sports I'm involved in numerous other school-related activities, such as Community Service and the School Government, having served as President last year. Even though I have never actually lived outside of Berlin, I love to travel, gaining insight in the ways of life and cultures of foreign countries.

See you in January,
Max Jürgens
