ADVISORY PANEL ON THE QUESTION OF LEBANON (APQL)
This Panel, consisting of 32 members, has the
task of drawing up a summary of the situation
in Lebanon and a plan of action for the region,
in an open debate. The Panel reports back to
the Secretariat General on the Friday of the
conference. What distinguishes this panel from all other forums at THIMUN, is that panelists will be the
representatives of bodies as diverse as countries, international organizations and local political parties. As such, they will not only bring political and diplomatic perspectives but, in addition, economic, cultural, religious and judicial dimensions to this forum. The purpose of the debate is
not to draw up a regular resolution, but a text that
is advisory rather than mandatory in tone. From
this it follows that the debate will also be organized in a different fashion. First of all, the rules
and regulations are akin to those of the Security
Council; secondly, the APQL will partly take
place in two separate groups – Domestic and
Foreign Affairs – in order to enhance the debate.
The quality of the debate highly depends on the
experience, flexibility and enthusiasm of the participants to the forum. Former APQ participants
all agree that this forum is so exciting because
the group is really in charge of the direction,
scope and format of the debate. There is a separate form for applicants.
All applicants must belong to a participating
school and should be students with previous
(THI)MUN experience.
