Student Officers - Criteria for the selection of Student Officers at THIMUN conferences

All applications for Student Officer positions are scrutinised carefully by THIMUN Office staff. They are checked for formal validity and sorted into the following categories:

1. Returnees, i.e. applicants who held a Student Officer position at the preceding THIMUN conference;

2. Seniors (i.e. those who are in their final year at secondary school) from THIMUN-hosting schools, namely the American School of The Hague, the British School in The Netherlands, the Deutsche Schule Den Haag, the Huygens Lyceum, the International School of The Hague and the Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest;

3. Seniors from schools hosting THIMUN-Affiliated conferences;

4. Seniors from other THIMUN-participating schools;

5. Juniors (i.e. those who have the potential to return the following year) from THIMUN-hosting schools;

6. Juniors from schools hosting THIMUN-Affiliated conferences;

7. Juniors from other THIMUN-participating schools.

In general, important positions, i.e. Executive Committee and Assistant Presidents of sub-commissions are filled from categories 1 - 4 in that order. Deputy positions are filled from categories 5 - 7 in that order. Within this framework, every effort is made to achieve gender balance and as wide a spread of nationalities as possible.
